Licensure Renewal FAQ

  • License renewal for PT and PT's is every 2 years on years ending in even numbers. 
  • Due Dec.31, 2018.  
  • There is online applications and you should have received an email from the PA State Board of Physical Therapy with the link to apply or renew your license.  If not, you can go to the PA State Board web page.

 

  • there is still a fee for the license
  • you still need to maintain the correct liability insurance

ALL contact hours mentioned MUST be pre-approved by the PA State Board of Physical Therapy

            --> any course offered by PPTA or APTA that relates to clinical content is approved for PA

What continuing education do I need for licensure renewal?

Physical therapist without direct access certification:

30 contact hours which includes:

            -contact hours in either general or evaluative content

                        -CPR training and other categories can be included. See State board  web page

            -2 hours of child abuse training if you have done this before and 3 hours if this is the first time taking the training.

                        --> a free course is offered by University of Pittsburgh and can be found at https://www.reportabusepa.pitt.edu

            -2 hours of ethics or jurisprudence 

 

Physical therapist with direct access certification:

30 contact hours which includes:           

            -10 hours of evaluative content, the remaining hours can be in evaluative or general content

                        - CPR training and other categories can be included. See State board web page

            -2 hours of child abuse training if you have done this before and 3 hours if this is the first time taking the training

                        --> a free course is offered by University of Pittsburgh and can be found at https://www.reportabusepa.pitt.edu

            -2 hours of ethics or jurisprudence 

 

Physical Therapist Assistant:

30 contact hours which includes:

-4 hours in responding to emergency situations

àCPR training is an example 

            -2 hours of child abuse training if you have done this before and 3 hours if this is the first time taking the training
